Dan Deer illustrates “Saynday” in a game of chance. He appears to have a look of disdain among various cohorts gleaned from Kiowa folklore, myth, and legend. The trickster wins some and loses some but , as in Aesop’s fables there is always a point or lesson to be made. These fables are orally disseminated as cautionary tales that amuse Kiowa children as well as teaching proper values and behaviors. When Saynday refuses good advice, refuses to share, or arrogantly boasts he always gets his comeuppance. Dan Deer in honor of “Silverhorn” makes and endearing contemporary attempt to recreate and perpetuate the stoic character beloved among the Kiowa storytellers.
