Benjamin Blackstar

 

Benjamin Blackstar was born in Anadarko, OK where he grew up and still resides. He was born in Katherine Ware-Perosi of Anadarko and Thomas Blackstar Jr of Elgin. His paternal grandparents are the late Thomas Blackstar Sr. and the late Marjorie Pahdocony of Lawton and maternal grandparents, Wesley Ware Sr. and Vivian Tanedooah Ware of Anadarko. He is a father of three and is married to Amanda Foster-Blackstar. He is a graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

As an enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and a descendent of the Comanche Nation, his artwork reflects the culture of The First Nations People. Benjamin Blackstar has always had an ability to utilize forms of art to express his thoughts and feelings and gives glory to God. He uses and preforms with mostly two-dimensional mediums but predominantly paints in oils. The materials he uses are made with traditional painting methods such as: hand-stretched canvases, hand made oil paints and traditional application methods that were once used by pre-twentieth century European painters. His knowledge of comparing colors and shadows from life into his artwork has always been a natural gift. He is known for classical style of Chiaroscuro and tenebrism, from the Baroque, Rococo, and Romantic eras of Europe.
