Al Bahe is a Navajo artist who grew up in Arizona. Following his service in the United States Marine Corps, the tribal elders awarded him a scholarship to attend the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Bahe furthered his art education at Northern Arizona University. Bahe paints in his studio in Shonto, Arizona. His trademark Navajo Yeii figures are the most consistent theme in Bahe’s art.Tribal elders consider showing exact images of the traditional dress and body paint of the Yeii to be sacrilegious, so Bahe covers the sensitive details, often with a blanket. Bahe has won numerous awards for his work.
